When writing his regular column for the Times, Liverpool legend Graeme Souness discussed Spurs’ title chances, and explained why they might struggle without star striker Harry Kane.
Tottenham currently sit in second position in the Premier League table, albeit a distant 10 points adrift of league leaders Chelsea, but their chances of overhauling the Blues took a severe hit when Kane was ruled out for a prolonged period of time after picking up an ankle knock.
And Souness explained why Mauricio Pochettino’s side is better equipped to cope with the loss of senior figures such as Danny Rose and Jan Vertonghen than they are the England international hitman, when writing his regular column for the Times:
“If you asked Pochettino which player he did not want to lose at this stage of the season, it would be Kane. It’s a question of whether they can get by without him. They just got by against Southampton last weekend and do not have much depth beyond their first XI. Tottenham have managed without Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose, but the one player they cannot do without for any amount of time is Kane.”

Upon their return to action following the international break, the Lilywhites face consecutive away games in the Premier League against Burnley and Swansea City respectively.
Those two fixtures will be a true test of Spurs’ mettle in the absence of Harry Kane, who they have relied upon to score most of their goals this term.
And if they do not bring six points back to north London from those outings, their title charge may very well be over.
