Pundit Kris Commons has told the Daily Mail that he thinks time is up for Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha, predicting that the Portuguese manager will lose his job in the very near future.

The Gers went into their Scottish League Cup semi-final against Motherwell needing a big win at Hampden Park, and with some impressive away performances at Hamilton and St Johnstone of late, fans were optimistic.

However, Rangers fell flat at Hampden Park, with Motherwell’s in-demand striker Louis Moult opening the scoring, bundling the ball home from close range after a goalmouth scramble.

Moult then proved his quality with a stunning second, lobbing goalkeeper Jak Alnwick from outside the box with a real touch of quality to send Motherwell into the final against Celtic with a 2-0 victory.

Stephen Robinson’s side produced a real turn up for the books by beating Rangers, and many now feel that the pressure is again mounting on Rangers boss Caixinha.

The Portuguese manager, who was sent to the stands on Sunday after Ryan Bowman’s clear elbow on Fabio Cardoso was missed, prompting outrage from Caixinha, has failed in three major points this season; Rangers were dumped out of the Europa League at the first hurdle by Progres Niederkorn, lost 2-0 at home to Celtic last month, and now haven’t made the Scottish League Cup final.

Caixinha is still struggling to really hit considerable heights after his summer spending spree, and former Celtic ace Kris Commons – now a pundit – has told the Daily Mail that he thinks Caixinha will be relieved of his duties in the near future.

Commons called Caixinha ‘a dead man walking’ after the worst result of the season, slamming him for falling short in every big test of his credentials, whilst criticising his side for being hot and cold before predicting that he doesn’t think Caixinha will be in charge for much longer.

“Watching Rangers falling 2-0 to Motherwell in the Betfred Cup semi-final at Hampden, an iconic-looking image of Pedro Caixinha suddenly appeared on the television screens,” said Commons. “The Rangers manager was walking up the tunnel after being sent off and I just thought: ‘That might as well be Pedro walking out the exit door out of Rangers for good.’ The Portuguese boss is now effectively a dead man walking. Sunday’s result is the worst of an already poor season for Rangers. It’s even worse than when the Ibrox side lost to Progres Niederkorn, the fourth best team in Luxembourg, in the Europa League.”

“When you are the manager of Rangers and you have spent £8million in the summer, a place in the final is expected as standard. You can’t be losing in a semi-final to a Motherwell side that narrowly avoided relegation last season. Earlier in the season, when Pedro signed Graham Dorrans and Bruno Alves, I thought Rangers would improve. But they’ve not won three games in a row under Pedro and that’s mid-table form. Every big question that has been asked of Caixinha he has fallen short. His Rangers blow hot then cold with no concrete signs of progress.”

“Rangers are now out of the Betfred Cup and have not won a major trophy since the League Cup in 2011. But for Pedro, the most telling sign was that Rangers fans were just dejected at the end. They have gone past anger. I woke up to Pedro’s latest ridiculous outburst, saying he is as addicted to winning as a vampire is to sucking blood. After what happened at Hampden now, I wouldn’t stake much on Pedro being Rangers manager for much longer,” he added.
