Pundit and Kilmarnock striker Kris Boyd has told The Scottish Sun that he feels Andrew Robertson is justifying his £10million price tag after the Liverpool left back starred for Scotland during the international break.
Scotland went into their international games needing two wins from games against Lithuania and Malta, and they got what they wanted with two strong performances.
After a 3-0 victory over Lithuania on Friday night, Scotland followed that up with a 2-0 home win over Malta, with both Christophe Berra and Leigh Griffiths finding the net.
A number of players impressed for Gordon Strachan’s men, with left back Andrew Robertson earning particular praise for his display over the last five days in a Scotland shirt.
Robertson, 23, left Hull City in order to join Liverpool this summer, with BBC Sport reporting that the Reds paid £10million to secure his signature, with manager Jurgen Klopp moving to sign a new left back after playing right-footed midfielder James Milner there last season.
Robertson was making his 18th appearance for his country against Malta, and he picked up an assist by setting up the second goal with a superb run and cross down the left.
After the game, pundit and current Kilmarnock striker Kris Boyd told The Scottish Sun that he felt Robertson was exceptional over the international break, and is justifying the £10million fee that Liverpool paid for him, labelling his performance against Malta as ‘different class’.
“Anyone questioning why Liverpool paid £10million for the Scotland left-back should look at these last two games,” said Boyd. “Robertson’s performances had quality stamped all over them. The former Hull City man is a striker’s dream with his delivery. His wonder goal against Lithuania stood out but against Malta he was again different class. The wee man offers so much to this Scotland team with his pace, energy and composure.”
“In the modern era, how many full-backs get into great positions only for the final ball to let them down? Not Robertson. His end product is top class as we saw when he slid in the ball for Griffiths’ clincher. It was a terrific cross but he did that all night with a variety of deliveries right from the top drawer,” he added.
