Pundit Kevin Campbell has said that while a number of Arsenal fans are disappointed about the deadline day signing of Jorginho, he could surprise a lot of his doubters.
The ex-Chelsea midfielder came through the door on Tuesday, with Mikel Arteta’s side securing his coup for £12 million (Daily Mail).
However, a sizeable section of the Emirates faithful were left unimpressed by the 31-year-old’s arrival, as his lack of athleticism and defensive flaws have been cited as factors that make him unsuitable to serve as a backup to Thomas Partey.
Pundit Kevin Campbell, on the opposite end of the spectrum backs Jorginho to give Arsenal fans a pleasant surprise with his performances.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, he said, “I like it. I know a lot of the [Arsenal] fanbase is thinking, ‘another Chelsea player’ etc., but he’s [Jorginho] experienced, he’s smart, he’s a good user of the ball and he’s somebody who can sit at the base of the midfield if Thomas Partey isn’t there or isn’t playing and dictate the play. That’s what Arsenal have lacked.”
“Right now, when you look at 18 months, Arsenal have big ambitions and he’s a proven Champions League player. Good business.”
Jorginho fits into Arteta’s style of play to a tee
While playing Jorginho as a lone defensive midfielder in Thomas Partey’s absence for a stretch of games would be risky, Arsenal fans could be in for a shock when they see how ideal a fit he is in Mikel Arteta’s philosophy, as the renowned pundit implied.
The Euro 2020 champion is a brilliant line-breaking passer and is perhaps one of the finest controlling midfielders in the Premier League.
Taking that into account as well as how much of the ball Arsenal keep, certain fans should not be as worried as they are about how Jorginho fares.
