Gary Lineker has heaped praise on Newcastle and Man United target Goncalo Ramos for scoring a hat-trick on his first-ever World Cup start against Switzerland while replacing Cristiano Ronaldo.

As per a report by 90 Min, Erik ten Hag was keen on the Portuguese sensation’s addition in January, who ably deputized for Ronaldo on the night.

However, the Magpies were providing stiff competition to United for the Benfica goalscorer’s signature.

The 21-year-old, valued at £25 million (via 90 Min) showed all the signs of being a future superstar against the Swiss.

Starting in place of Ronaldo, all eyes were on him.

However, the youngster took all the pressure as a privilege with 3 finishes of the highest order at the biggest stage of the sport.

Lineker praises Ramos after statement display

Gary Lineker tweeted out his appreciation for Goncalo Ramos for scoring a brilliant hat-trick against Switzerland, while coming into the side for Cristiano Ronaldo in the World Cup.

“What an incredible night for Goncalo Ramos. With all the pressure of replacing one of the footballing greats, he scores a hat-trick. Remarkable”, he commented.

While Newcastle will not regret signing him, Manchester United may

At the end of the day, Newcastle have a stupendous striking talent within their own ranks in Alexander Isak.

Scoring 2 goals in 3 Premier League starts for Eddie Howe’s side, the Swede has already showcased that he is ready to torment defences at the highest level.

While an injury stopped the silky striker in his tracks, he is expected to set St. James’ Park alight when he returns.

As a result, the club should not beat themselves up for not signing Ramos.

Manchester United on the other hand should, considering the wonderkid will generate interest from some of Europe’s top dogs after his masterclass on Tuesday night.

Whatever said and done, Gary Lineker is right in hailing Newcastle and Man United target Goncalo Ramos for his outstanding performance at the World Cup.
