Steve Nicol told ESPN that it’s been a ‘surprise’ as to how ‘influential’ Kieran Tierney has been at Arsenal.
The former Scotland international and Anfield legend shared that Arsenal simply don’t have a good team, even though some of their first-team players were missing against Everton last time out.
Amid the protests outside of the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal fell to another home defeat on Friday night, with Bernd Leno being the guilty party.
Nonetheless, Nicol shared his thoughts on the Gunners and made his claim about his fellow countryman, Tierney.
“Four pieces of the puzzle have been missing, Odegaard, Tierney, Lacazette and Aubameyang,” said Nicol.
“But you know what with those four big pieces, they are still in 9th place, so I don’t know who is kidding who. This just isn’t a good team and it’s not a good squad.
“And the so-called big pieces, they aren’t pulling the rest along, that’s for sure – Tierney has been a surprise in how influential he has been.”
Tierney has brought a sense of toughness and no-nonsense style to Arsenal from Celtic, and it’s rubbing off on the supporters.
The £25 million defender (Sky Sports), who is facing the possibility of missing the rest of the season, has had calls for him to be made captain given how he has conducted himself.
And whilst Arsenal fans can be happy with how one jigsaw fits on the left-hand side, there are plenty of empty and questionable spaces around him that need sorting.
