Kyogo Furuhashi is ‘good enough’ for Tottenham Hotspur but Celtic legend Chris Sutton is not expecting Ange Postecoglou to raid his old employers after taking over the Premier League giants.

Celtic supporters know from experience that Ange Postecoglou, who was confirmed as Antonio Conte’s long-awaited replacement last week, likes to work with players he knows and trusts.

Daizen Maeda and Tomoki Iwata, both of whom played under the new Tottenham Hotspur boss at Yokohama F Marinos, were reunited with the Aussie at Parkhead.

Postecoglou also brought Kyogo Furuhashi to Scotland after coming up against the former Vissel Kobe talisman in Japan. And, when the ex-Australia boss left for London, it didn’t take long before reports emerged suggesting Kyogo could join him; The Sun reporting that Tottenham could make a move for Celtic’s £20 million-rated top scorer.

Sutton, however, believes Postecoglou will not risk destroying all that goodwill he accumulated during two outstanding years at Parkhead, even if his comments may be made in hope rather than expectation.

Who will Ange Postecoglou sign for Tottenham Hotspur?

“I may be wrong here, and you can play this clip back, but I don’t think that Ange will go in for any of the Celtic players,” Sutton tells BBC Radio 5 Live.

“The Celtic fans love him. If he went back and pinched their best players, they would not be happy.”

Furuhashi scored a stunning 34 goals en route to winning the Scottish Premiership Player of the Year award in 2022/23. In addition to his outstanding movement and lethal finishing, Kyogo’s relentless work ethic and his ability to press from the front means he is tailor-made for Postecoglou’s dynamic, proactive style of football.

Sutton believes the 28-year-old certainly has the talent to thrive in England. Though the potential departure of Harry Kane would leave big boots to fill.

“He’s a different player to Harry Kane,” Sutton adds. “He’s good enough to play in the Premier League. Is he good enough for Spurs? Yes.”
