Davie Provan has backed Brendan Rodgers to return to England – as long as he impresses in the Champions League.

Pundit Davie Provan has told The Scottish Sun that Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers needs European success to earn a move back to the upper echelons of the Premier League.
Celtic are in Champions League action this evening as they host Manchester City, with the Bhoys looking to kickstart their Champions League campaign after a 7-0 defeat to Barcelona just over two weeks ago.

The game sees Bhoys manager Brendan Rodgers reacquainted with Manchester City, who pipped him and his Liverpool side to the Premier League title back in 2014.
Rodgers’ career has taken something of a slide since then, and his reputation would be boosted by a shock Champions League win over City tonight.
Unfortunately for him, that won’t be easy. City have played ten games in all competitions this season, and have won all ten as Pep Guardiola has made a remarkable impression at the Etihad Stadium.

Ahead of the game, former Celtic ace and current pundit Davie Provan has spoken to The Scottish Sun about Rodgers, and a possible move back to the Premier League in the near future.
Provan believes that the former Liverpool boss won’t get a top Premier League job just by dominating Scottish football, and needs to impress in the Champions League if he’s to return to the top of English football.

Provan thinks that just giving Manchester City a tough challenge this evening would be a great start, though Celtic fans won’t be too keen on the idea of Rodgers leaving the club any time soon.
“Domestic domination in Scotland won’t be enough to see the ex-Liverpool boss reacquainted with the top end of England’s Premier League,” said Provan. “Restoring Celtic’s credibility in Europe is more likely to have an impact down south. Giving City a run for their money would be a good start,” he added.
