Pundit Davie Provan doesn't think Celtic fans would accept Eddie Howe as Lennon's replacement

Celtic’s season continues to be a massive disappointment, and there are constant thoughts about who could replace Neil Lennon.

The Bhoys were hoping to make this the season of dreams, the campaign in which they would win a tenth league title in a row.

Instead, it’s been a nightmare. Celtic crashed out of the Champions League qualifiers at the hands of Ferencvaros, whilst the Europa League campaign was dismal.

In the league, Celtic now sit 23 points adrift of Rangers in the race for the title, with their hopes all but over.

Boss Lennon has somehow managed to cling onto his job until now, but Celtic are surely considering their next move.

The Sun now claim that Celtic fancy landing Eddie Howe as their next manager, having left Bournemouth at the end of last season.

Newcastle United are keen on Howe too, meaning Celtic may have to move quickly to land the Englishman if they want him.

Now though, pundit Davie Provan has told The Scottish Sun that there is ‘no obvious candidate’ to replace Lennon, and doesn’t even think Celtic fans would accept Howe at Parkhead.

“That directors haven’t already paid up Lennon’s contract suggests they’re struggling to get a proper replacement. Fortunate to get someone of Brendan Rodgers’ calibre after Ronny Deila, there is no obvious candidate,” said Provan.

“Eddie Howe? I can’t see the Celtic support buying into the former Bournemouth boss,” he added.
