Former Ibrox striker Kris Boyd has written in The Scottish Sun that fans in England do not get how big Rangers and Celtic really are.
The former Rangers striker made the comments about the Gers and the Hoops in regard to the Old Firm clubs potentially joining the Premier League and forming a British league.
The Scottish Sun has reported that the Premier League want Rangers and Celtic to join them.
Boyd, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, has said that fans down south do not understand just how massive Rangers and Celtic are.
The Scotsman has added that Rangers and Celtic are bigger than Manchester City and Chelsea.
Boyd wrote in The Scottish Sun: “People down south will disagree but both are bigger clubs than the likes of Man City and Chelsea. In fact, only Manchester United and Liverpool can match the Old Firm for size.
“Down south, a lot of the football audience is unaware of the size of Rangers and Celtic. The fanbase of both clubs, the weight they carry and the infrastructure would shock some people.
“Both Rangers and Celtic have a global appeal and that’s not down to the league they play in. They haven’t had the millions of pounds pumped in that some English clubs have had for 30 years — and they are still bigger.”

Could a British league happen?
Rangers and Celtic playing in the Premier League would be massive and would make the top flight of English football much better.
However, it is hard to see the Gers and the Hoops leaving Scottish football anytime soon.
If Rangers and Celtic do not play in Scotland, then it could be detrimental to Scottish football, as Sky and BT are unlikely to pay a lot of money for broadcasting deals without the Old Firm clubs.
