George Burley has told ESPN that Newcastle United will have to pay huge money to land Mauricio Pochettino.
Newcastle have been heavily linked with Pochettino, as their potential new owners appear to be lining up potential managerial targets for when their takeover is confirmed.
Steve Bruce has done a credible job at Newcastle this term, but it seems that his time at St. James’ Park will come to an end sooner rather than later, if new owners do come in with the Magpies.
Pochettino could well be Newcastle’s top target to takeover.
But Burley thinks that the Argentine would have to be offered massive wages to be persuaded to take the Newcastle job.
“Newcastle – if they’re interested – are going to have to have a heck of a sign-on to get him there,” said Burley.

“They know he could be sitting tight for one of the big jobs. We’re not sure what’s going to be around [in the summer]. Newcastle, as big as they are, are a difficult sell.
“He had his time at Tottenham, a great time at Tottenham, but he had to build that up over five years with relative resources.
“He’ll have to do that again at Newcastle with who knows what kind of money after the takeover.
“It’s a sit-and-wait for Mauricio Pochettino. If Newcastle were to get him, it would be a huge coup for that club.”
Pochettino would be an exciting arrival at Newcastle, and really highlight their ambition under their new owners.
When Pochettino left Spurs last year he was linked with some of the biggest jobs in world football, but he is still currently out of work.
The project at Newcastle could also appeal to Pochettino, as he would finally have some big money to spend at St. James’ Park, and could mould the squad how he sees fit.
