Tam McManus has claimed on PLZ Soccer that Steve Clarke is the frontrunner to replace Neil Lennon at Celtic.
The Irishman quit his post as Hoops boss earlier this week during what’s been a disastrous season.
Celtic are 18 points behind Rangers at the top of the Premiership and what was supposed to be a historic, 10-in-a-row winning campaign has been an utter nightmare from the very start.
There’s a huge rebuild needed on the green part of the Old Firm divide and it remains to be seen who the Bhoys wind up hiring.
But former Hibernian star McManus believes that Scotland boss Clarke is leading the race.
He said: “I think Steve Clarke is the favourite and the front runner. He wants to get back to club management and is still quite young. Clarke is the frontrunner for me for the Celtic job.”
Quite a lot of Celtic fans wouldn’t mind this.
Brendan Rodgers is one of the Hoops’ most successful coaches of all time – certainly in terms of domestic success – but the Leicester City manager struggled in a big way to get the better of Clarke.
Rodgers’s Celtic struggled against Clarke’s Kilmarnock more than any other side and it took the Foxes boss five attempts to finally see off the Rugby Park side during the Scot’s reign.
