Garth Crooks has told BBC Sport that he thinks Liverpool may well implode if Georginio Wijnaldum gets injured.

Liverpool have experienced a disastrous season in terms of fitness issues, with a number of key players sidelined.

Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk and Jordan Henderson are all currently long-term absentees, with Fabinho also sidelined.

Liverpool have also had to deal with the likes of Thiago, Alisson and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all being out for lengthy periods this term.

And Crooks feels that Liverpool are one injury away from a total collapse, after watching them beat Sheffield United 2-0.

He said: “It started to look like it was one of those nights for Liverpool where nothing was going to beat Ramsdale but it was only a matter of time.

“Wijnaldum once again seemed to keep it together for Liverpool in the absence of Jordan Henderson. Should anything happen to Wijnaldum between now and the end of the season, bearing in mind their injury list, I think Liverpool would implode.”

Wijnaldum has indeed been a key player for Liverpool over a number of seasons now.

However, the Reds may have to get used to playing without Wijnaldum in the future.

The £25 million Dutchman’s (BBC Sport) contract is set to expire at the end of the campaign and so far there has been no indication that he will pen new terms to stay at Anfield.
