Everton have made an excellent start to their Premier League season. The Toffees have won their first two league games and the atmosphere around the club is as good as it has been for some time.
The signings of James Rodriguez, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Allan has given the Toffees a huge boost. The trio have performed brilliantly in the two games but a player who has been at Everton for some time is outshining them.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has scored four goals in those two games. The Englishman bagged the winner against Tottenham on the opening day before netting a hat-trick against West Bromwich Albion.
The former Sheffield United youngster has looked a different player since Marco Silva left Everton. Calvert-Lewin has played out of his skin since and Garth Crooks feels Duncan Ferguson’s influence has played a big part.
He wrote on the BBC website: “This lad went ten games without scoring last season. There were even some who were beginning to doubt whether the England Under-20 World Cup winner was good enough to lead the Everton attack at all. They are not thinking that now.
“Ever since club coach Duncan Ferguson got his hands on the Everton striker, he has grown in confidence at an alarming rate. Now with Carlo Ancelotti at the helm and Rodriguez providing the ammunition, anything is possible.”

Still only 23, Calvert-Lewin has a lot of time to develop. The Englishman’s record since Silva’s departure has been really impressive and the way he has started this season will give him a lot of confidence to take his game to the next level.
Ferguson’s tutelage has certainly played a big part in his development. Calvert-Lewin looks a different player now and will only get better as the season goes on.
The likes of Rodriguez and Richarlison will set things up for him regularly and, if he can continue his form, he will certainly score more goals for Everton this term than he did last season.
