Tony Cascarino has told talkSPORT that Kyle Walker-Peters and Danny Ings have ‘reignited’ their careers at Southampton after being ‘let go’ by Tottenham and Liverpool, respectively.

Both players initially moved to Southampton on-loan before the Saints paid Liverpool £20 million for Ings’ services [BBC Sport] in 2019, whilst Walker-Peters swapped Spurs for Saint Mary’s in the summer.

Southampton have been one of the form teams of the season and Walker-Peters and Ings have played their part.

Former Republic of Ireland international Cascarino shared his thoughts on the duo since their departures from Spurs and Liverpool.

“Loads of players in all positions have done really well [for Southampton],” said Cascarino. “You think of Kyle Walker-Peters how well he has played, a fullback from Tottenham.

“They have had a number of players in their squad, who have been let go by bigger clubs and have sort of reignited their career at Southampton. They have got loads of them.

“Romeu in midfield. Bertrand. Ings has been let go. Saying let go, they paid £20 million for him. But he was at a bigger club.”

Southampton recently beat Liverpool on home soil, with Walker-Peters and Ings impressing in that game.

Ings scored the only goal of the match with a sublime lob over Alisson Becker following a set-piece situation.

Whilst Walker-Peters marked some player called Sadio Mane out of the game, which isn’t bad going for a player who struggled to get onto Tottenham’s bench not so long ago.
