Rangers are targeting Jermain Defoe and want him to follow Steven Gerrard to Ibrox.

Defoe is a proven goalscorer, with 273 club goals to his name in his career and 20 strikes at international level for England.
The only drawback for the Gers is that Defoe is 35, but according to one pundit a year ago, he will find scoring in Scotland a doddle.

Andy Townsend told BBC 5 Live’s Monday Night Club that Defoe could score for fun at Celtic… even at 45.
“Listen, Jermain will score when he’s 45 if he went up to Celtic.
“It’s true, that’s true. Listen, that’s a fact.”

Defoe is about to get a chance to play for Celtic’s rivals Rangers, 10 years in advance of Townsend’s prediction, and by his logic he will find scoring regularly at Ibrox easily.
Townsend’s message centred on the notion that the Scottish Premiership is of a poor standard, and to some degree what Defoe does will prove this one way or another next season.
This season Defoe has scored an underwhelming four goals for Bournemouth in 26 league games.
If he manages to net 30 for Rangers next season, then perhaps Townsend is right, that he will be able to do it in Scotland at 45.
He must first prove he can hack it at 35.
