Jan Åge Fjørtoft has said that he cannot believe that Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson has been snubbed for the Yashin Trophy.

The former Middlesbrough and Sheffield United player has said on Twitter that it is “scandalous” that Liverpool and Brazil international goalkeeper Alisson did not make the list for the Yashin Trophy.

The award is presented by France Football and was introduced in 2019.

The trophy is given to the best goalkeeper in the world and is the goalkeeper’s equivalent of the Ballon d’Or.

Alisson was the inaugural winner of the trophy and finished ahead of Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Ederson.

However, the £150,000-a-week (Spotrac) Brazil international goalkeeper has not been nominated this time around.

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, Aston Villa star Emiliano Martinez and Arsenal ace Aaron Ramsdale are among the nominees for the current edition.

Like Fjørtoft, we are surprised at all that Alisson has not been considered for the award.

The 30-year-old is one of the best goalkeepers in the world and has been superb for Liverpool over the years.

While the Reds had a disappointing campaign last season, Alisson was at the top of his game and did brilliantly.

The former AS Roma star is playing well this season too.

Alisson a big player for Liverpool

Liverpool are aiming to win the Premier League title this season.

In our opinion, Alisson will have to be on top of his game throughout the campaign for Liverpool to be successful in that quest.

The Reds are third in the Premier League table at the moment with 10 points from four matches.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are only two points behind leaders and defending champions Manchester City.
