Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi is now being backed to follow Ange Postecoglou to Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

Ange Postecoglou has been confirmed as Tottenham Hotspur boss – and Kyogo Furuhashi could end up following him.

Postecoglou clinched a domestic treble with Celtic on Saturday evening, beating Inverness Caledonian Thistle 3-1 in the Scottish Cup final.

The Australian has now decided that the time is right to leave Celtic and try his luck in the Premier League.

Postecoglou has worked wonders as Celtic and must now sort out an absolute mess at Tottenham.

One of the key aspects of Postecoglou’s success at Celtic was strong recruitment throughout his time at the club.

The likes of Jota, Liel Abada, Matt O’Riley, Alistair Johnston and even ex-Tottenham defender Cameron Carter-Vickers have thrived at Celtic.

Then there is the Japanese recruitment with Postecoglou utilising his time as Yokohama F. Marinos manager perfectly.

Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda have been outstanding but striker Kyogo Furuhashi has taken Scottish football by storm.

Kyogo Furuhashi backed to follow Ange Postecoglou to Tottenham Hotspur

Kyogo joined Celtic from Vissel Kobe in 2021 and has barely stopped scoring since.

54 goals in 83 games is an outstanding record and the 28-year-old has been a real penalty box menace in Scotland.

Unsurprisingly, the links to Tottenham have already started.

The Sun claimed over the weekend that Postecoglou wants to take Kyogo to North London.

Former Rangers ace Brian Laudrup has now had his say and believes Kyogo to Tottenham may have legs.

Laudrup has told the Daily Mail that he thinks Postecoglou has ‘immense’ admiration for Kyogo as a player and as a person.

The Dane thinks that Tottenham must sign a striker no matter what happens regarding Harry Kane’s future this summer.

Laudrup thinks Kyogo would be a huge success at Tottenham as support for Kane – or as a replacement for him.

Laudrup added that Tottenham ‘have the money’ to go and push for Kyogo’s arrival, believing it wouldn’t be a surprise if Postecoglou pounces.

“His admiration for Kyogo Furuhashi — as both a player and a person — is clearly immense,” said Laudrup. “Postecoglou has said that, when he was working in Japan, he already knew that he wanted to make the striker his first signing if he ever got a job in Europe. No matter which club or country it was, Furuhashi was coming with him. That level of faith is unusual. And it feels particularly relevant when you consider the wider situation at Tottenham.”

“We don’t know what is going to happen with Harry Kane this summer, although Spurs insist he’s not for sale. He’s been linked with Real Madrid after Karim Benzema’s decision to leave for Saudi Arabia. Manchester United, too, have a long-standing interest. Spurs are going to need a new forward. If not to replace Kane immediately, then at least to give another credible option in that department.”

“I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Furuhashi ended up joining Postecoglou in London at some point. And I could see him being a success, too. With his movement, his intelligence, his finishing and his work-rate, I think he could handle the step up in quality. He would be a handful even for the more switched-on defenders of the Premier League and, crucially, would understand what his manager wanted from him.”

“That’s only part of the equation, of course. Would Celtic let their most prolific goalscorer follow their manager out of the door in the same summer? It would have to be a really significant financial offer for a player who still has two years left on his contract. In my view, though, Furuhashi has the ability to make an impact at Spurs. And they have the money to try and make a deal happen if it’s what Postecoglou wants,” he added.
