Tottenham are close, very close. One superstar could tip them closer to silverware.

Tottenham Hotspur appear to get closer each season to winning silverware, but each time they narrowly fall short.
This summer is a watershed moment for Spurs as they move into their sparkling new stadium.
Standing still in the transfer market is not enough; it is time for chairman Daniel Levy to pick up the phone, dust off the fax machine, and reach out to Real Madrid to attempt to bring back Gareth Bale.
Sold for £86 million in 2013, Bale is no longer essential to Real. He has been outlasted and outperformed by Cristiano Ronaldo, the Champions League’s current top scorer.

Real beat Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League last 16 with Bale’s involvement at a minimum. He played 22 minutes of the first leg and 14 of the second, 36 of a possible 180.
At this stage he would be far more important to Tottenham than Real, and rejoining the North London side could reinvigorate the 28-year-old’s career.

Despite a stop-start season, Bale has 11 goals for Real this campaign, and Tottenham should not worry about him being a fading force.
He is exactly who they need to turn tight games, like the one Tottenham lost to Juventus in midweek.
As Spurs reflect on a season of progression in Europe, but one which could have been even better, adding three-times Champions League winner Gareth Bale to their ranks should become a priority for chairman Daniel Levy this summer.
