Paul Merson has claimed that Jurgen Klopp must be ‘pulling his hair out’ at Liverpool due to their inconsistency.
This week, Klopp’s side completed their Champions League group stage and eased into the next round of the competition without much difficulty.
Liverpool won five of their six games in European competition but it’s a very different story in the Premier League.
Honestly, the Reds might have to win the Champions League to secure entry into next season’s tournament due to how their top-four effort is shaping up this season.
The Anfield outfit have suffered horrendous defeats to Nottingham Forest and Leeds United in recent weeks, leaving them eight points behind fourth-placed Newcastle United who, incidentally, are playing out of their skin.

The Magpies aren’t going to drop many points, meaning that games like Liverpool’s visit to Spurs on Sunday is absolutely massive.
And Merson believes that the former Borussia Dortmund boss – who earns £288,000 per week on Merseyside [Goal] – must be at a loss to explain and repair his troops’ domestic form, relative to how they breezed into the Champions League knockout phase.
He told Sportskeeda: “Liverpool have defeated Napoli, Ajax, and Manchester City, but have lost to Leeds and Nottingham Forest. Had they won both those games, they would’ve been in sixth place. It’s extraordinary, and Jurgen Klopp must be pulling his hair out. Every week that goes by, the gap between Liverpool and the top four gets bigger. They can’t afford to lose this game.”
