West Bromwich Albion have endured a fairly quiet transfer window so far, with just two players being added to the first-team squad.

Tony Pulis has insisted that West Brom have made some enquiries for players this summer, including Middlesbrough’s Ben Gibson, but suggested that they cannot rush the process of getting players in, the Express and Star reports.

Baggies fans have, once again, been left frustrated by the club’s efforts in the transfer window with only two players being added to the first-team squad while a third summer signing Zhang Yuning will spend the next two years on loan at Werder Bremen.

But Pulis has suggested that West Brom have been busy and are working hard to bolster the numbers within their squad, while also confirming that Boro defender Ben Gibson – who the Express and Star suggested recently was the subject of three bids from the Baggies, the most recent worth £21 million – is one of the players that they are looking at.

“You would love to have them in now and working on the shape of the team but we are not able to do that. If it is the last week it is the last week. We need to make sure they are the right players and that is the most important,” he said, as reported by the Express and Star.

“Gibson is not the only target. We have enquired about a few. A few of those are moving forward. We will have to wait and see.”

While Pulis is adamant that the club will have some new faces in before the window shuts, the Baggies supporters would certainly be forgiven for being concerned that they are leaving it late to get some business done.

West Brom appear to have one of the smaller squads in the division, and the longer the window goes on, surely the more likely it is that other teams will drive prices up when Pulis’ men come calling as they will know how important each signing is.

And with the new season just around the corner, the Baggies are in serious danger of getting the new signings in too late to allow them to get a decent pre-season under their belt, which could be crucial as they try to adapt to their new surroundings.
