Patrick Bamford has scored a few crucial Championship goals for Leeds United recently while Tony Pulis’s Boro have slipped out of the play-offs.

Tony Pulis has told his shot-shy Middlesbrough strikers to try and emulate Leeds United’s former Riverside favourite Patrick Bamford in the final few weeks of the Championship season, as reported by the Daily Star.

Leeds paid £7 million to sign Bamford from Middlesbrough in July 2018, as reported by Sky Sports, and the North East outfit might be wishing they had kept the former Chelsea youngster now.

While Bamford has helped fire Leeds back into the automatic promotion positions with recent goals against Norwich and Bristol City, Boro have slumped to eighth in the table after a disastrous run of form.

They have lost each of their last five Championship games and have failed to score since a 2-1 defeat to Preston North End three weeks ago.

And Pulis is hoping that one of the strikers at his disposal can now step up and fill the sizeable void left by Bamford in Middlesbrough’s toothless attack.

“Someone needs to go on a streaky run and start scoring lots of goals,” said the former West Brom boss, who has copped plenty of flak for his side’s late-season collapse.

“We are creating chances but need to put them in.

“Last year, Patrick Bamford went on a little run scoring something like nine goals in 10 games and we need someone to do that.”

Britt Assombalonga, Ashley Fletcher and West Ham loanee Jordan Hugill have scored just 19 Championship goals all season with the former the only player in Middlesbrough’s squad to hit double figures.
