Willy Caballero’s contract expires at Manchester City in the summer, which could pave the way for Southampton to sign him.

Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero’s contract expires at the end of the season and it is unclear as to whether or not he will renew.

The Argentine stopper has made 11 appearances in the Premier League this season, eight of which came in City’s previous nine fixtures.

The Daily Mail reports that Guardiola is considering a new one-year deal for the 35-year-old, following his recent assured performances in the Man City goal.

However, if the former Malaga man is allowed to leave the Etihad in the summer, it could pave the way for another Premier League side to sign him, such as Southampton.

The Saints’ current first-choice goalkeeper Fraser Forster has been linked in recent weeks to Everton, according to the Daily Mail, with Joe Hart being lined up as a potential replacement.

Big boots would need to be filled should 29-year-old Forster depart, and Pule could opt for Willy Caballero as a strong but cheaper alternative to England international Hart.
