Liverpool are in need of a left-back this summer and have reportedly targeted Gael Clichy on a free transfer.

Liverpool are in the market for a new left-back this summer, following a season in which midfielder James Milner was forced to play out of position to cover for the club’s lack of options in that area.
The 31-year-old did an admirable job covering the left-back role, but now Reds manager Jurgen Klopp has looked to fill that void in his side; targeting Manchester City’s Gael Clichy on a free transfer this summer, according to a report from the Sun.

The French international’s contract expires with Pep Guardiola’s side in July and his signing would provide a player with title-winning experience to this hungry Liverpool side.
The 31-year-old has won three Premier League crowns, two League Cups and one FA Cup with Arsenal and Manchester City, and this experience could be what Liverpool need to maintain their momentum for the full season.

However, the Cannes youth product may not be the right answer to fill the left-back role on a regular basis.
Clichy has the pace to be a problem for any side, but at the age of 31 he might not be capable of providing the intense high pressing and high energy game which Klopp demands of his team.
Experience is invaluable on the road to winning silverware and the Frenchman has plenty of it, but it is debatable as to whether he is the answer to Liverpool’s defensive woes, especially when you consider his below-par performances this season.
