Sky Sports have reported that Jermain Defoe has agreed to join Bournemouth on a three-year deal this summer, worth a reported £65,000 per week.

The Sunderland striker is the top scorer for the Black Cats, netting 15 goals in his 37 league appearances this season.

He had a clause in his contract that allowed him to leave the Stadium of Light for a free transfer if the club were relegated and he has taken up that option following David Moyes resignation as Sunderland manager.

The former England international will add a wealth of experience to a youthful attacking setup, consisting of Joshua King (25), Callum Wilson (25), Benik Afobe (24) and Lys Mousset (21).

Joshua King in particular is already an impressive goal scorer for the Cherries, netting 16 in his 36 Premier League appearances this season.

If Eddie Howe can keep hold of the 25-year-old, he could form a formidable partnership with Bournemouth’s first signing of the summer.

Despite being 34 years old, Defoe is still a prominent threat in front of goal, proven by his goal scoring exploits for a woeful Sunderland side this season.

The Cherries front men will also be able to turn to Defoe’s experience and know-how to improve their own game, giving Eddie Howe a potent attacking force at his disposal ahead of the 2017/18 Premier League campaign.
