PSV Eindhoven are reportedly set to discuss with Everton in the coming weeks about extending Jarrad Branthwaite’s loan deal, which is due to expire in the January transfer window.

According to Eindhovens Dagblad, the Eredivise giants are keen to keep the ‘titanic’ talent for the remainder of the season, with the 20-year-old centre-back making 12 appearances in all competitions with PSV as the Dutch side look to keep their squad depth for the second half of the season.

PSV went into the 2022 FIFA World Cup break top of the Eredivise, and whilst Branthwaite has made just eight league appearances for the Eindhoven-based side, the 20-year-old defender has impressed during his first few months in Holland, with the European club now keen to extend his loan spell to the end of the season.

With Branthwaite only making 14 appearances in total for Everton since joining from Carlisle in 2020, there’s every reason to expect that the Toffees will allow the 6’5″ youngster to remain in the Netherlands with PSV, especially given how much top-flight experience the defender is getting.

Although the defender might be a useful squad player for Frank Lampard in 2023, few Everton fans would agree that sparse appearances in the Premier League would be much good to the defender’s development when he could play as many minutes for a club like PSV, who are still in European competition.

Indeed, Branthwaite remaining with PSV would be a wise decision from all parties, and with the January window just a few weeks away, Everton must wrap up fresh terms with the Dutch giants soon if they’re to send the centre-back out on loan again for the remainder of the season.

Branthwaite has the potential to become quite the player for Everton in the coming years, yet the Toffees will know, even now, that the defender isn’t ready just yet to become a regular at Goodison Park. And loaning the youngster back to PSV is a great decision on many levels.

Not only will Branthwaite continue to play regular football for a top side, but the defender is also in line to get more minutes in the UEFA Europa League, with PSV into the knockout stage of the competition and one of the dark horses for the entire tournament.
