A former coach at PSV Eindhoven, Twan Scheepers has boldly claimed that now-Liverpool star Cody Gakpo thinks and plays like Thierry Henry.
The Kop will certainly be hoping Gakpo is even remotely close to Henry, as their struggles continued in their 3-1 defeat to Brentford.
Much like the Frenchman, the £37 million (The Athletic) man is also predominantly a left-winger, who can also operate as a striker.
At the World Cup, Cody Gakpo was a revelation for the Netherlands up front.
Scoring an impressive 3 goals in Qatar, the Liverpool forward managed to stand out as his country’s best player, despite operating in an unnatural position.
So much so that it was even widely reported that Manchester United viewed the 23-year-old as the successor to the departed Cristiano Ronaldo.
It seems as if Gakpo has turned heads with his displays up top to such an extent that he has now been likened to one of the greatest ever players in the position.
Ex-PSV coach says Cody Gakpo reminds him of Thierry Henry

Twan Scheepers, a former coach at PSV has said that Liverpool attacker Cody Gakpo is similar to the one and only Thierry Henry.
“When he [Cody Gakpo] gets the ball, you are always on the tip of your chair. There is always something happening when he is on or around the ball and it is always forward.”
“He is an exciting player, who will only get even more exciting. He can adapt to be a striker but I don’t see him as one.”
“I am not saying he is Thierry Henry, because you cannot compare players but the way they think, the way they play with always running towards the goal and clever in the 18-yard box, I can see why he is a huge fan of him”, the ex-PSV coach was quoted saying by talkSPORT.
As excellent as the brand-new Liverpool signing is, that is a stretch
While Cody Gakpo could certainly light things up in a Liverpool shirt, the comparison to Thierry Henry from the former coach at PSV is far-fetched to say the least.
Over the years, virtually every hybrid of a winger and a striker gets likened to Henry and ultimately, such discourse ages poorly.
Gakpo is an extremely gifted player but to claim he is anything like the Arsenal legend is a stretch.
