A move to Liverpool has never seemed overly likely for Kylian Mbappe, but, for some reason, these rumours keep on cropping up.
The Frenchman admitted in the summer that he had talks with the Reds about a potential transfer, while Duncan Castles claimed at one point that Mbappe had told his friends he wanted to move to Anfield.
It seems as though there is some weight behind this story, and according to The Athletic, PSG did give Mbappe an option to join Liverpool in the summer.
Indeed, The Athletic report that PSG did give Mbappe the option to exit the club in the summer, but they told him that he could only leave to join Liverpool, not Real Madrid.
As you can imagine, PSG were demanding an extraordinary fee for the player, but Mbappe himself rejected the ultimatum that was put to him, instead deciding to stay in Paris.

This is a very interesting story to say the least, and it’s one we can’t quite get our heads around.
Why would PSG be happy to sell to Liverpool and not Real Madrid? Do they not see the Reds as great rivals on the European stage? Or was this just a bit of a double-bluff as they knew the Merseyside club were unlikely to ever even consider the £352m fee that they were demanding to let Mbappe go?
It is interesting to hear that PSG are somewhat open to selling Mbappe to Liverpool above any other club, and perhaps this is something the Anfield outfit may want to investigate further once their new investors are through the door.
Of course, the chances of Mbappe leaving PSG for that sort of money are incredibly slim, but the door is just ever so slightly ajar for Liverpool to make this move it would seem.
