Georginio Wijnaldum’s time at Liverpool is over, and his time with Paris Saint-Germain hasn’t exactly started as he would have hoped.
The Reds allowed Wijnaldum to leave the club on a free transfer this summer and he said an emotional goodbye to Anfield after five years there.
The Dutchman joined from Newcastle United in 2016, making 237 appearances for the club whilst winning the Premier League and Champions League under Jurgen Klopp.
Klopp likely didn’t want to lose Wijnaldum, but FSG weren’t willing to give a big new contract to the 30-year-old.
Paris Saint-Germain were willing to do that, handing Wijnaldum a three-year deal to join Mauricio Pochettino, who wanted Wijnaldum at Tottenham back in 2016.
After featuring for the Netherlands at Euro 2020, Wijnaldum turned out for PSG for the first time on Sunday – but it didn’t go to plan.

PSG lost the Trophee des Champions clash with Lille, which is the French Super Cup. Xeka’s goal was enough to give Lille a 1-0 win, with Wijnaldum coming on as a substitute.
PSG fans have been taking to Twitter to react to Wijnaldum’s first game since joining from Liverpool, and they seem impressed.
Some suggested that Wijnaldum was ‘great’ and ‘made a difference’ when he came on, praising his energy whilst admitting they can’t wait to see more of him in the future.
