PSG have reportedly categorically denied interest in Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Eriksen, but could Real Madrid signing Kylian Mbappe change that?

Paris Saint-Germain have allegedly denied any potential deal to try to sign Christian Eriksen from Tottenham Hotspur before the transfer window closes.

The Evening Standard reports that, in an email to the Associated Press, PSG said it “categorically denies the transfer rumours regarding a potential transfer of Christian Eriksen” and that reports “seem to ignore the current reality of the transfer market.”

The latter part of this statement appears to refer to the French champions’ current issues with UEFA in relation to a potential breach of Financial Fair Play rules.

As Spanish publication AS reports, the Ligue 1 club are being investigated after spending a whopping £364m over the past 12 months on Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

Therefore they are in no position to sign Eriksen as well in what was being rumoured as a £100m deal; an offer that it is suggested would have tested the resolve of Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

Could the situation change?

The same report from AS also claims that Real Madrid are keeping a close eye on proceedings at the Parc des Princes and are prepared to make a move for Mbappe if PSG are forced to sell to balance the books.

Madrid are still targeting a marquee signing to fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo’s summer departure to Juventus and with Neymar having told TV3 he is staying in Paris, the France international could be the ideal option.

In that scenario it would remain to be seen how much Mbappe would cost and if PSG would then be in the financial position to sign a replacement, but Eriksen could well fit the bill.
