Former Tottenham player Ramon Vega has taken to Twitter to react, after Tottenham announced they’d won an award.

What’s the story?

Well, Spurs announced earlier today that they’d been named among the winners of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) National Awards.

It marks the 17th award won by the north Londoners for their exquisite, state-of-the-art stadium since it was opened in April 2019.

After hearing the news, Vega – who made 71 appearances for Tottenham, and won the League Cup with them in 1999 – tweeted the following.

As one fan said to Vega in the comments section, supporters would rather see football-related silverware, rather than awards for their infrastructure.

However, this is still something to be proud of for Spurs as a football club.

Will Tottenham be like Arsenal after stadium move?

As we all know – and as Forbes detailed tidily – moving to the Emirates Stadium led to Arsenal selling many of their best players to balance the books.

The switch helped increase matchday revenue, but it made the Gunners less competitive as the likes of Robin van Persie, Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri were sold.

Now, Arsenal are a shell of the club they once were.

Will the same happen to Tottenham?

Well, with Daniel Levy refusing £100m from Manchester City for Harry Kane, perhaps the stadium change hasn’t had the same impact on Spurs as it did for Arsenal.

In truth, the Premier League TV money of the modern era should help Tottenham in their transition from White Hart Lane.

It has been over two years now since Spurs moved into their new home, and not one of their best players has been offloaded to raise money.

Perhaps Tottenham won’t ‘do an Arsenal’ after all.
