Kieran Gibbs thinks Harry Kane’s situation at Tottenham Hotspur is a ‘special case’ and thinks he will leave the club this summer amid transfer interest from Bayern Munich.

There has been a lot of talk about Harry Kane’s future this summer, a lot more than 12 months ago, but those rumours haven’t been squashed by either Tottenham or the player himself.

Given that the England captain is quiet about it all, former Premier League left-back Gibbs thinks that it indicates the goal-crazy striker wants to leave, as he told ESPN.

Bayern Munich aren’t going away and they are doing everything in their power to sign the 29-year-old – even those in the Munich boardroom publicly expressing their interest in the player.

For those at Spurs, they might not like that approach and feel it’s a little disrespectful, but that’s the way of the footballing world today.

Nonetheless, with this Kane transfer saga dragging on, Gibbs thinks that there is only one way it will all go.

“The only thing that is making me think that he will go is because Harry is such a professional guy,” said Gibbs. “I know how much he loves Spurs.

“He knows how important he is to this team and where Tottenham will be without him. If he could shut down the noise, at any point, to protect his team because he knows this will be affecting everyone at the club. If he is going to stay or go.

“I feel like with Harry, he is a special case, in the sense that he doesn’t want all of the speculation dragging with Tottenham.

On Kane not coming out and ending all speculation: “That’s actually making me think that he is likely to want out now. With the state of the club, at the moment, and how much he has done. I would go now.”

Investing Kane money on the defence

If the England captain heads for the exit door, then that money has to be used to invest, rebuild and refresh the club’s declining, error-prone and untrustworthy defence.

Even in pre-season, after the debacle of the previous campaign, the signs are pretty clear that Tottenham can’t be going into the new season with the current players at the back.

Kane going or not, more money needs to be thrown at the defence. And, of course, a few more faces can come in all over the pitch if the main man up top heads to Bayern.
