The former Sunderland midfielder Don Hutchison wants to see a former Mackems manager back at the Stadium of Light.
Phil Parkinson was sacked as Sunderland boss on Sunday.
And reacting to the news on Twitter afterwards, Hutchison wrote:
Hutchison was brought to Sunderland by Reid in July 2000 and the Scotland international scored eight goals in 31 Premier League games as the Mackems finished seventh for the second successive campaign.
Reid took charge of Sunderland in 1995 and was the man who led them back to the top-flight four years later.
But the 64-year-old failed to replicate that success elsewhere and last managed at Mumbai City in 2014, after short-lived spells with Leeds United, Coventry City, Thailand and Plymouth Argyle.
Sunderland’s next boss will be their third since their relegation from the Championship in 2018.
The side left behind by Parkinson is currently eighth in League One after Friday’s 1-1 draw at Fleetwood Town.
Gateshead-born Hutchison grew up supporting Sunderland’s north-east rivals Newcastle United but has admitted to having divided loyalties after his spell on Wearside.
