Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has suggested that Diogo Jota is nowhere near a comeback from injury, to the Liverpool Echo.

Jota has missed Liverpool’s last six games with a knee problem, but there were hopes that he could return this month.

However, it seems that the Portuguese forward is set for a long time on the sidelines yet.

Klopp said: “He’s still in the knee brace, so a few weeks away from team training. Nothing new to say. It takes time. No surgery needed but a proper injury. Not a little knock. No real time frame for that.”

That news comes as a major blow to Liverpool, as their attack simply hasn’t clicked into gear recently.

Liverpool’s shot counts, particularly away from home, have been well down on their average from last season, when they stormed to the league title.

Klopp’s side have now scored just two goals in their last three matches, with none of their usual attacking options fully firing.

If Jota had been fit he surely would have broken into Liverpool’s starting line-up by now, given his form over the early part of the campaign, but it seems Klopp may simply have to make do with his current options for weeks yet, after the latest update.
