Liverpool remain linked with Jorginho as Napoli move in on the Hellas Verona star.

Serie A side Napoli have been widely reported as closing in on a €7.5 million deal for Hellas Verona star Jorginho.

However, according to plenty of reports, Liverpool are still interested in making a last gasp move for the 22-year-old as Brendan Rodgers tries to strengthen his side for the second half of the season.

So is it a gritty battle that Liverpool should get stuck into? Here’s what the stats say.

Goals

Jorginho has seven goals from Serie A appearances (18) this season which suggests he could be extremely valuable as an additional goal threat. Compare that to stats from Liverpool’s current key midfielders and he’s three ahead of Steven Gerrard in an arguably weaker and less creative team.

Assists

Jorginho has three assists for Hellas Verona this season, which is more than Philippe Coutinho, Raheem Sterling and Luis Alberto but fewer than Jordan Henderson and Steven Gerrard. He’s certainly not a million miles away from having a similar touch and decision making under pressure.

Passing Accuracy

Jorginho’s passing accuracy is currently 86.1% from his league appearances this season, which betters Alberto, Coutinho and Sterling so far this season. He certainly wouldn’t look out of place in terms of the way Liverpool like to play their football.

Discipline

Jorginho has been booked on three occasions so far this season and only Lucas in the current Liverpool squad has more with five, which is no surprise as he plays as a holding midfielder. What that tells us is that Jorginho is not afraid to get stuck in and he certainly wouldn’t be pushed around in Liverpool’s midfield.

Aerial Duels Won

Coutinho, Sterling, Alberto and Moses are all winning fewer aerial duels per game on average than Jorginho, with Steven Gerrard on the same average number, which further supports the idea that Liverpool will lose nothing in terms of how they play should they go for Jorginho.
