Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino needs to bring Ben Davies back into the team against West Ham.
Former Tottenham Hotspur chairman Lord Sugar branded Danny Rose a liability via his Twitter account for the way he gave the ball away during the Premier League defeat against Liverpool earlier this week.
Rose’s passing accuracy was poor against Liverpool and his passing stats from Tottenham’s last five Premier League games certainly suggest that Mauricio Pochettino should consider starting Ben Davies in the match against West Ham when Premier League action returns.
| Position | Team | Match | Passing Accuracy | Times Possession Lost | Appearances | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Danny Rose | DF | Tottenham | Tottenham vs Sunderland | 83% | 20 | 1 | 90 |
| Danny Rose | DF | Tottenham | West Brom vs Tottenham | 77% | 17 | 1 | 90 |
| Danny Rose | DF | Tottenham | Tottenham vs Arsenal | 68% | 26 | 1 | 90 |
| Danny Rose | DF | Tottenham | Liverpool vs Tottenham | 58% | 24 | 1 | 90 |
| Danny Rose | DF | Tottenham | C. Palace vs Tottenham | 53% | 24 | 1 | 90 |
His accuracy in the game against Sunderland was fine, but since then his numbers have dipped despite some positive results and performances in big games from the rest of the team.
Rose is vital for Tottenham because not only does he form part of the defence, he is an extra source of width on the left-hand side.
Tottenham don’t always play with an out and out wide man down the left-hand side, which increases the importance of the full-back getting forward.
That full-back has to protect possession effectively, especially if he’s pushed forward in advanced positions.
Giving the ball away further up the field is disastrous for Rose, because it leaves space in behind which can be exploited by the opposition.
Looking at the game against Liverpool, his passing accuracy over the last five games was only worse against Crystal Palace, while in terms of giving the ball away he has only dipped below that mark against Arsenal.
Ben Davies deserves a chance.
