Should Leeds move for Chelsea’s talented striker Dominic Solanke?

Championship promotion hopefuls Brighton and Hove Albion moved yesterday to secure the services of young Chelsea talent Fikayo Tomori on loan, The BBC reported.

Defender Tomori will be hoping to have the same sort of impact striker Tammy Abraham has had at Bristol City, who has scored regularly for the Robins.

Chelsea have won the last three FA Youth Cups, but their young players have struggled to make the first team, until this season at least under Antonio Conte.

Fourth placed Championship side Leeds United are still to make their moves this transfer window, save for snapping up loanee Pablo Hernandez on a permanent deal.

The player they should be taking a look at, on a loan deal with a view to permanent, is Chelsea youth striker Dominic Solanke.

Chelsea’s 2015 Academy Player of the Year, Solanke is a young striker who led England to the under-17 European Championships two years ago, finishing as top scorer at the tournament. Already he has 19 goals for England at various youth levels.

The 19-year-old has a prolific record at youth level for the Blues, helping them to winning the UEFA Youth League, where his record of 12 goals in 11 games speaks for itself, but he has fallen out of favour at the Blues after refusing so far to sign a new contract.

He had a loan spell in Holland with Vitesse last season, scoring seven times in the Eredivisie. A Championship switch is just what he needs, and Solanke will be keen to emulate Abraham’s success, and would be a viable alternative to Leeds target Ashley Fletcher if they cannot land the West Ham ace.
