A look at Arsenal and Tottenham’s respective starts to the season.
Arsenal’s consistently high placings in the Premier League has never seen them drop below Tottenham during Arsene Wenger’s long tenure as manager.
The 2015/16 season see a fresh start for Spurs, who will be hoping to reverse their fortunes, and a strong start to the campaign will be crucial.
We have taken a look at the opening five fixtures of both teams, projecting wins and losses, to look at which North London club can look forward to a better start to the season…
Tottenham
Manchester United (a) – Loss
Stoke (h) – Win
Leicester (a) – Draw
Everton (h) – Win
Sunderland (a) – Win
A big improvement will be needed on Spurs’ last display at Old Trafford to get a result, but with the Red Devils expected to spend heavily, the smart money will be on a home victory. Expect Spurs to bounce back against Stoke, and also record a home win over slow starters Everton. If Spurs can pick up a draw and a win on the road at Leicester and Sunderland they will set themselves up nicely.
Verdict: 10 points from a possible 15.
Arsenal
West Ham (h) – Win
Crystal Palace (a) – Draw
Liverpool (h) – Win
Newcastle (a) Win
Stoke (h) – Win
Arsenal have the rare luxury this season of not having to play a Champions League qualifier, and can focus their efforts on the Premier League. An opening day win over West Ham is likely, while Stoke have never posed a threat on their trips to The Emirates. Arsenal have a much more settled side than Liverpool, and they can be expected to pile the pressure on Brendan Rodgers, while their record at St James’ Park is strong over the past few seasons.
Verdict: 13 points from a possible 15.
