Theo Corbeanu has progressed impressively behind the scenes and is well worth his new three-year contract, Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Academy Manager Scott Sellars told the club’s official website.
The Canada-born Romanian might not have arrived at Molineux from Atletico Madrid, Porto or Bayern Munich, but it is not ‘where you come from’, it is ‘where you are going’ that matters.
And Wolves obviously feel that Corbeanu is well on his way to forcing himself into Nuno Espirito Santo’s first-team plans.
The 18-year-old has been rewarded with a three-year professional contract after a fine start to the 2020/21 season and looks like another shining beacon of success for a club who appear to have a secret formula to unearth uncut gems.
“He’s been full of confidence and his performances have been excellent for the under-23s – he’s got himself a few goals, so a lot of people have been talking about him,” Sellars explains.

“We feel it was the right time to reward him for what he’s done. He’s trained with the first-team quite a lot and they’re pleased with his progress, so it’s a reward for his consistency.
“We’ve always said, our job, ultimately, is to develop local lads, but then we have to search around England and around the world. Theo came from Canada two years ago and he’s progressed really well.
“It shows that the talent is out there, not just in England, and it’s our job to try and find them.”
A versatile forward who idolises Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, there are other rewards available for Corbeanu if he continues to progress at such a rapid rate.
Nuno handed first-team debuts to 10 academy prospects last season after all, and Wolves are not exactly overloaded with forward option.
