Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has been discussing Jorginho after he signed for Arsenal and how this signing is being received amongst the fanbase.

The Gunners signed the Italy international on deadline day, and it’s fair to say that some members of the Arsenal fanbase weren’t too impressed by this signing.

Wright is of the opposite opinion, he believes that the Italian is the perfect player for the Gunners right now, and he has a theory as to why some fans aren’t keen.

Indeed, Wright believes that Arsenal fans don’t like Jorginho due to the fact both David Luiz and Willian flopped at Arsenal after arriving from Chelsea in their early 30s.

Wright’s Jorginho theory

The pundit spoke about Arsenal’s newest midfielder.

“It’s a good signing, it’s Jorginho. The problem people have with it is that it has come from Chelsea and the players we had from Chelsea, we had Willian, we had David Luiz and now we have Jorginho, but on this occasion I think we have someone who is absolutely perfect for what we need. When you look at that game, the quality of the passing, the goal he scored, that’s why we won that game in the end. If we’d drawn it would have felt like a loss to me,” Wright said.

Easy comparison

It is very easy to make this comparison between Jorginho and the likes of Willian and Luiz, but it’s not very fair.

Every player is unique in their own development, and it’s not fair to say that Jorginho will flop at Arsenal just because he has a similar profile to Willian and Luiz.

Even if he does follow the Willian trajectory, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The winger has been brilliant for Fulham this season, and while he didn’t have the best of times at Arsenal, that’s a small blip in a long and decorated career.

Jorginho does have a point to prove at Arsenal and after a bright performance against Aston Villa at the weekend, he’s going the right way about it.
