Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier heard a very familiar noise in London on Friday night.
The Spurs centre-back attended an MMA event in the English capital last night.
With Tottenham not back in action until tomorrow’s game against Aston Villa, the 27-year-old was permitted to go along to the occasion.
But once the television producer highlighted him as one of the famous people in attendance, boos rang around The SSE Arena.
It’s likely that the jeering came from rival supporters – like those with Arsenal affiliations perhaps – but here’s how some Lilywhites fans reacted on Twitter:
MMA is a brutal sport but, as Nuno Espirito Santo found out in September, so is football.
Tottenham began the month top of the Premier League after winning their first three games, culminating in Nuno picking up the Manager of the Month prize.
But Spurs have lost all three Premier League games since then – including last weekend’s North London derby defeat to Arsenal, which hurt the most.
Dier has been an ever-present figure for Nuno this season and you have to say that he’s probably been one of the team’s better and more consisent players overall.
And the Portuguese coach will need him to continue that again tomorrow ahead of the visit of in-form Aston Villa.
