Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City will have to pay €100 million (£85.70 million) if they are to sign Gavi from Barcelona now, according to Marca.
Marca have reported interest in Barcelona midfielder Gavi from Premier League clubs Liverpool and Manchester City.
The report has added that both clubs have been willing to pay the midfielder’s (previous) release clause of €50 million (£42.85 million).
However, the release clause of the 17-year-old is now €100 million (£85.70 million), according to Marca.
Why?
Well, according to the report, in Gavi’s contract that he signed in September 2020, it is said that in the third year of his deal, his release clause will be €100 million (£85.70 million).
So, in the month of June 2022, his price has doubled.
Liverpool and Manchester City unlikely to pay £86m for Gavi
In our view, Liverpool and Manchester City are unlikely to pay £86 million for Barcelona midfielder Gavi this summer.
Liverpool have just signed Darwin Nunez for big money, while City have secured the services of Erling Haaland for a big fee as well.
Moreover, Pep Guardiola’s side are well stocked in midfield and do not need another player in that position, even someone as good as Gavi, who has been described as a “midfield maestro” by former Tottenham Hotspur striker Gary Lineker on Twitter in October 2021.
For £43 million, yes, Liverpool and City could have signed Gavi now, but we do not think that they are going to pay double that money now.
