Lucas Torreira is going from strength to strength in Serie A but have Everton missed their chance?

Sampdoria’s season already looked a promising one but their remarkable 3-2 victory over Serie A champions Juventus on Sunday has Marco Giampaolo’s side dreaming of something very special.
Samp are sixth right now – seven points clear of big spending AC Milan – and boast one of the most exciting, in-form players in the entirety of the Italian top flight. Lucas Torreira enhanced his reputation even more with a stand-out performance against Juve, scoring his third goal in 12 games this season in the process.
And the Blucerchiati’s director, Carlo Osti, has made clear to Calciomercato that the diminutive playmaker is now a man in high demand.

“Torreira has gone from Serie B to A with ridiculous ease,” Osti said of Torreira, who signed from second tier Pescara for just £1.5 million in 2016.
“It was said that if he scored even just a few goals, he’d be perfect. He’s already scored three and my phone rang continuously on Monday. Still, no-one will leave in January, even if everyone’s already asking me about him.”
With Torreira emerging as one of Serie A’s breakthrough stars, you can expect that Everton are still watching the 21-year-old closely.

Tuttomercatoweb reported in March that The Toffees had sent scouts to watch Torreira in action. And though Everton aren’t short of midfielders, the Uruguayan is a truly elite talent who was even compared by respected scout Robert Druda recently to none other than Marco Verratti, per Calciomercato.
But with Torreira likely to be on the radar of bigger clubs than Everton after his superb performance against one of Europe’s best sides, have The Toffees left it too late?
