Arsenal take on Basel off the back of a stunning 3-0 victory over Chelsea. However, the Swiss club have an excellent record against English opponents.

Arsenal host Basel at the Emirates Stadium in the first ever competitive fixture between the two clubs.

Arsenal have not lost to Swiss opposition in four games, conceding just one goal in those matches. However, Basel have played English clubs in the Champions League 10 times – and have lost just once. They have scored in each of those 10 fixtures, and will pose more of a threat to the Gunners than perhaps many expect.

The Swiss champions have not won in the Champions League in their last five games, however, continuing that winless run with a 1-1 draw in their opening game against Ludogorets.

Wenger is likely to make a two or three changes to the side that beat Chelsea, but he will name a strong team against an opponent that should not be underestimated.

This could open the door for the likes of Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny to make starts against their old club.

Elneny joined from Basel in January, while Xhaka returns to his hometown club, having come through the youth ranks there. He left to join Borussia Monchengladbach in 2012, before joining Arsenal this summer.

Albania's Taulant Xhaka and Switzerland's Granit XhakaHis older brother, Taulant Xhaka, is still at Basel, and they could line up against each other shortly after having become the first siblings to play against each other at the Euros, when Switzerland (Granit) and Albania (Taulant) played against each other in the group stages. Switzerland won 1-0.

David Ospina will also be in contention to start after a solid performance against PSG.

Arsenal will be without striker Olivier Giroud due to suspension, after he picked up a second yellow card having come on as a substitute in the 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain.

The Gunners are also missing midfielder Francis Coquelin, as he joins Per Mertesacker, Danny Welbeck, Aaron Ramsey and Gabriel Paulista on the injury table.

Basel will likely also name a strong team, but are without both Kevin Bua and Manuel Akanji.

Arsenal Predicted Starting XI (4-2-3-1): Ospina; Monreal, Koscielny, Mustafi, Bellerin; Xhaka, Elneny; Iwobi, Ozil, Walcott; Sanchez

Basel Predicted Starting XI (4-2-3-1): Vaclik; Traore, Balanta, Suchy, Lang; Zuffi, Xhaka; Steffen, Delgado, Bjarnason; Janko
