Chris Sutton has told BBC Radio Five Live that he feels Mesut Ozil’s time at Arsenal is definitely coming to an end now.

Ozil was not included in Arsenal’s League Cup squad to face Leicester City yesterday, as Mikel Arteta continued to overlook him.

Ozil has not featured at all for Arsenal since after lockdown, and even though Arteta named a rotated line-up last night there will still no room for the German international.

Sutton feels that Ozil being left out was ‘pretty amazing’, but the BBC pundit also claims it is an indication that there is simply no way back for him now.

“I think with Ozil it’s pretty simple, he doesn’t work hard enough, he’s not doing enough – I saw he tweeted a few weeks back that he was fit and working hard. Well, obviously not enough to impress Arteta,” Sutton said on the Five Live at 10:28pm on 22nd September.

“The fact he’s been left out of the Carabao Cup squad is pretty amazing. It’s the end for him, there’s no way back.”

Ozil remains one of Arsenal’s finest talents in possession, but Arteta seemingly is highly reluctant to use him.

The Spanish boss demands that his side press high, and it may simply be that Arsenal doesn’t have the work-rate or the desire required to fit in with his system.

Arsenal are still struggling to shift Ozil out, despite being willing to listen to offers though, because of his high wages.

Even without Ozil Arsenal were able to progress last night, as they sealed a 2-0 win at the King Power Stadium.
