The on-loan Everton winger has helped Preston to within six points of sixth-placed Sheffield Wednesday, with whom he spent the second half of last season.

Preston North End winger Aiden McGeady has set his sights on catching former club Sheffield Wednesday in the race for this season’s Championship play-offs.
McGeady, who is on loan at Deepdale from Premier League Everton, disappointed during a six-month stay at Hillsborough last season.
The Republic of Ireland international scored just once and failed to assist in 10 starts for Carlos Carvalhal’s side and was excluded from Wednesday’s squad in the lead up to their play-off final defeat to Hull City.

His spell at Preston has proved far more fruitful, however, having scored or assisted 11 goals in 22 league outings to leave the Lancastrians just six points off the sixth-placed Owls with 12 games remaining.
“I have been playing well and the team has been playing well,” McGeady told Preston’s official website. “Everything seems to be clicking at the minute and hopefully we keep continuing that and pushing for that sixth spot.
“Since we had a good run two or three months ago I think it was in the back of everyone’s minds that the aim is to try and get a play-off place and now Sheffield Wednesday have lost their last two and we are six points off them, so it is an achievable target.”
McGeady, who turns 31 in April, remains under contract at Everton until June 2018, and is likely to be on the move again this summer with a new deal not thought to be in the pipeline.
Preston are currently ninth under Simon Grayson, who led them back to the Championship less than two years ago.
