Rangers are reportedly interested in luring Louis Moult to Ibrox this summer.
According to The Sun, Rangers are monitoring the situation of Preston North End striker Louis Moult, despite only making a move to Deepdale in January.
Moult, 25, was a sensation with Motherwell following a 2015 move from Wrexham, hitting 50 goals in 98 games during his time at Fir Park, before heading back to England in January.
The striker – who suggested to The Scottish Sun that he had interest from Rangers in January – hasn’t quite got going at Deepdale yet, and that has sparked new claims of Rangers interest.
Rangers may well be in the market for another striker this summer if Jason Cummings’ loan move doesn’t become permanent, but Preston would be foolish to give up on Moult already, and are unlikely to do so.
North End won a fierce battle for Moult’s signature, with the striker himself stating that the Lilywhites’ desire to secure him helped him realise that they were the club for him, and Alex Neil’s side would be unlikely to give up on a player they tried so hard to land just two months ago.
Moult’s record for Preston – no goals in five games – doesn’t look great, but there are mitigating circumstances, such as the fact that he arrived at Deepdale with a hamstring injury from his time with Motherwell.
Add in that Callum Robinson’s form following Jordan Hugill’s move to West Ham United kept Moult on the bench, and that Sean Maguire has now returned with four goals in three games, and it has been hard for Moult to kci koff his Preston career with a bang.
The striker, who missed Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Fulham, will surely be given a full pre-season with Neil and co, and whilst Rangers may still be keen after missing out in January, they shouldn’t expect to land Moult this summer.
