West Ham United rescued a point against Stoke City on Monday night, as striker Andy Carroll came off the bench to snatch a 1-1 draw.

Peter Crouch had put the visitors in front at the London Stadium, but Carroll struck to hand the Hammers a share of the spoils in a disappointing display.

Carroll was one of three substitutes deployed by manager David Moyes, as Javier Hernandez and Manuel Lanzini also came off the bench, but there was no such luck for Jordan Hugill.

The striker joined West Ham on deadline day back in January, but has yet to start a single game for the club, and has made just three substitute appearances totalling only 22 minutes.

Jordan Hugill of West Ham United looks on prior to the Premier League match between Brighton and Hove Albion and West Ham United at Amex Stadium on February 3, 2018 in Brighton, England.

Hugill looks to be at least fourth choice behind Marko Arnautovic, Hernandez and Carroll, and many have been left wondering just why West Ham splashed £8million (Daily Mail) to sign him if they weren’t going to use him.

There were even reports from The Sun over the weekend which suggested that Hugill could be allowed to leave the club this summer either on loan or even permanently, as his move to East London could turn sour.

Preston fans have now offered their view on Hugill’s struggles, suggesting they aren’t surprised his move isn’t working out, and thanked the Hammers for the £8million they spent on him.

Others want to see Hugill return to Deepdale next season if he’s still struggling for playing time, with some feeling he deserves much more of a chance to shine under Moyes.
