Everton winger Aiden McGeady has enjoyed a brilliant loan spell in the Championship with Preston North End.

Preston North End boss Simon Grayson has told BBC Radio Lancashire that he hopes to speak to Everton about agreeing some kind of deal for winger Aiden McGeady.

McGeady has been on loan at Deepdale since the beginning of the season looking to prove himself after a fairly uninspiring spell at Sheffield Wednesday last term that probably did little to prove a point to the Toffees.

However, his time with Preston has been a resounding success, with his form since January being particularly impressive. Since the draw with Aston Villa shortly after the turn of the year, he has contributed three goals and five assists to take his season tally for four goals and eight assists.

And Grayson confirmed that he would love to be able to keep McGeady around the club next season, whether that be on loan or permanently.

“We’d like to [keep him], and I think Aiden has made it clear he would like to stay,” he told BBC Radio Lancashire.

“The problem is that he has a year left at Everton. But we’ll do as much as we can to make sure he’s a Preston North End player next year.

“Do we go and sign him on a long-term contract, or do we try to get him on another season-long loan? Negotiations will happen with Everton because we would be foolish not to ask the question.”

McGeady’s recent form has been a key reason why the Lilywhites go into the final nine games of the campaign with a genuine chance of sneaking into the play-off places in the second tier, so it is hardly surprising that Grayson wants to pursue a permanent deal or another loan move.

And given the number of talented attacking players in Ronald Koeman’s squad, it seems difficult to imagine that Everton will have a problem with giving some kind of deal the green light, despite his brilliant form.
