Preston North End earned a hard-fought point against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
Preston boss Alex Neil addressed the media in the aftermath of his side’s 1-1 draw with Wolves at Deepdale on Saturday, and blasted Nuno Espirito Santo’s side for what he perceived to be continual play-acting, as quoted by the Express & Star.
The Black Country outfit have earned nothing but high praise all season long, for the exceptional brand of football that they have displayed on a regular basis.
Neil, though, chose to criticise the Wolves stars for the way in which they made tackles from the Preston players look far worse than they actually were, as quoted by the Express & Star:
“Against the likes of Wolves they’ve got a lot of soft foreign players haven’t they? I think a lot of them go down and look as if they’re really hurt and makes the referee think the challenge is worse than it actually is. You can guarantee they’re going to bounce back up within seconds and that’s exactly what happened. The way the Wolves players go down and roll around it looks like they are really hurt, making the referee think it was a really bad tackle when in actual fact it was an honest attempt to get the ball.”
The Lancashire outfit now sit just three points adrift of the play-off places after Saturday’s draw, and will be looking to finish the season strongly.
Neil’s men certainly demonstrated that they can mix it with the very best at the weekend, and they will surely take a lot of confidence from the fact that they made things so difficult for the league leaders.
Preston face a crucial trip to Aston Villa tomorrow night, and three points there really would be a massive boost to their hopes of earning promotion to the Premier League.
